How to Incorporate Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year in Your Design
Each year designers, artists, creatives, and more eagerly await the announcement of Pantone’s Color of the Year. This year did not disappoint. Announced on December 6th, Pantone brought us an extraordinarily versatile hue in Living Coral. It is almost a contradiction of itself in being bright yet muted and positive yet calming – ultimately it offers the perfect balance in 2019, something we should all be striving for.
As Pantone explains, Living Coral is “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”
Describing it in more detail, Pantone states, “Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.
“In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.
“Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.”
ADDING LIVING CORAL TO YOUR DESIGN
Bringing this hue into your designs will actually be less daunting than one may initially think. Given the latest trends being neutral whites, beiges, and grays, Living Coral will offer a fantastic pop of color and bring joy into a space that was previously monotone.
The quickest and easiest way to introduce a taste of Living Coral is to accessorize your space. Use teapots, coffee mugs, vases, art, or even flowers to bring this color alive. It’s best to use these accessories in neutral spaces along with natural elements such as green house plants.
When planning for 2019’s Color of the Year, you’ll want to work with muted palates that complement the brightness and energy of Living Coral. This is best accomplished using grays and blues such as the ones highlighted above.
And for those of you who are willing to be bold, Living Coral is an amazing color for an accent wall – which you can do in tile or paint.
Or you can get inspired even further with amazing pattern tiles, such as those from Bati Orient.
You’ll want to incorporate this color in a space that uses gray and natural touches.
When implementing this style you can add elements of nature by using a wood-look or marble floor tile. To notch up the coziness level of the space, you’ll want to incorporate soft textures like velvet on your furnishings. Or to keep the look sleek and modern, use a balance of finishes such as a matte wall with a glazed tile.
But let’s get into the specific details on what products go along best with this amazing new color of the year…
