Crossville and D&B Tile Distributors Show Versatility in Design at IIDA Fashion Show
Future conversation between a husband and wife about to leave for an evening on the town could go something like this . . . “Honey, I don’t have anything to wear . . . I think I will go with that new outfit made from Crossville tile . . . “ And, it actually happened.
It was part of an event held at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Miami recently and sponsored by the South Florida chapter of the International Interior Design Association. The purpose of Design M iX is to contribute to the funding of the up and coming designers with scholarships to further their education in the Interior Design industry.
It was worn by Annie Llerena, daughter of Rudy Llerena, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of D&B Tile Distributors. Annie is also Branch Manager of the Doral location of D&B Tile.
The D&B Tile project was coordinated by Heidi Roberts, Architectural and Design Representative with D&B Tile. Overall Leader for the project was Melissa Kennedy. The dress was designed by ID & Design International (IDDI), a cross-disciplined and diversified team of design professionals specializing in Department Stores, Specialty Retail, Hospitality, Supermarkets, Restaurants, Entertainment and Lifestyle projects. The company has headquarters in Fort Lauderdale and offices in Denver, CO and Montreal, Canada.
IDDI has a number of high visibility projects in South Florida, including The Bahia Mar Beach Resort Doubletree by Hilton, Oceans 234 in Deerfield Beach, the IPIC Theater in Delray Beach and Scottsdale, AZ, the Pinon Grille in Boca Raton, the Chops Grille for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Kaluz Waterfront Bar & Grille in Ft. David Palmer with Palmer Marble and Tile waterjet cut the quatrefoil shapes for the skirt. Palmer Marble And Tile, Inc was founded in 1984. They are commercial and residential tile contractors and stone fabricators. The company is located in West Palm Beach, FL
Ivan Herrera with The Miami Floors cut the strips of Laminam by Crossville for the jacket. They specialize in floor/wall tile installation, and are certified on the most advanced and modern tile concepts and methods of the industry including installing Laminam.
The design team had to utilize the tile in such a way that would allow the model to wear the garment for up to four hours, walk down an elevated runway in front of attendees and network with industry professionals for an extended period of time.
The IIDA annual event is called Design Mix. This year’s theme was Casino Royale Show Me the Money. Design firms partnered with a vendor to produce a theme relevant garment to be worn down a runway by an appointed model that design firm chooses. They had to use the materials from the vendor sponsoring them.
According to Robert Sutnick, Senior Architectural Rep and Regional Manager Caribbean for Crossville, “. . . this is the 15th year D&B Tile Distributors and Crossville have participated in the annual event hosted by the International Interior Design Association.”
