D&B's Crossville Line Used in
![]() | ![]() | |
| Designer Karen Hanlon with Karen Hanlon Design, Inc. used the Crossville Buenos Aires line with its mood and variation above. before picture below right | ||
According to designer Karen Hanlon, the objective was to upgrade the overall appearance of the cafeteria. "When the students and their parents toured the site and walked into the cafeteria it looked like an elementary school. The quality of the food is reflected in the look of the space. We wanted something hip but not over the edge. We wanted a transitional look with a sense of real quality. "Crossville's Buenos Aires line had a lot of variation and a lot of different trim sizes and textures. We used the polished finish on the wall but texture on the floor to avoid slipping." Outside sales person in Delray was Lou Bautko; Katt Arnold, ASID was design team rep. Point man for Lynn University was Matt Chaloux, Director of Auxiliary Services. The contractor was Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling. Project manager for the firm was Chris Heidisch. Tile installer was J2Tile and Stone. Food service company and operator of the facility is Phoenix Restaurants, Inc. headed by Richie Grund. Karen Hanlon studied art and architecture in Florence, Italy. She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in hotel restaurant management. Her first job was with a professor in Cornell architecture. She then worked for design firm in New York. Karen moved to South Florida in 1989 and started her own firm. "We specialize in hospitality, restaurants, and retail. We like to start a job concept development."The psychology behind the marketing of the concept goes much deeper than just getting on the front page of a magazine. My concept is geared to the owner making a profit and how to sell the concept. I am concerned about operations and logistics more than just creating a beautiful space. Some of her projects include work with Jack Mancini's restaurant on Las Olas Blvd, Mark's Restaurant, Houston's, La Trattoria in Palm Beach Gardens and El Noche night club. Upcoming projects include Yolo restaurant and the O Lounge in the old Brasserie location also on Las Olas Blvd, "My objective is to put money in the right places. I tend to stay away from things that have made it into the residential market. I look for cutting edge materials that people are not used to seeing. I've worked with D&B Tile for the past five years and find them very accomodating. They were especially helpful when we ran into shortages on the job. My design team rep is Katt Arnold, ASID". Karen Hanlon Design, Inc. is located at 1150 South Northlake Dr., Hollywood, FL 33019. You can reach Karen at 954-927-6896 or visit her website at karenhanlondesign.com
