Gene Moscone, President of Fantasy Flooring, Inc.

He began his career in the industry working with his father at the tender age of four. At the time in Massachusetts , bricklayers also laid tile and marble. When his family moved to South Floirda in 1977, his father’s business installed tile and marble exclusively.

“Immigrants built this country at the turn of the last century. This type of work has been the mainstay of my family for generations. After we moved to Florida, I worked for my father every weekend and in the summers. I learned from him that nothing beat quality installation and attention to detail.”

After his father became ill, Gene took over the family business and eventually opened Fantasy Flooring, Inc. himself. “We do tile, marble, wood laminate… you name it we’ll put it down. Our workforce fluctuates with the economy. At the moment, we have 12 employees. When I find good people, I keep them. One of my subcontractors has been with me for 25 years.” Working in mostly high-end projects, his company has installations at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo and The Ocean in West Palm Beach.

In addition, they are the exclusive flooring contractor for Robinette Homes in Hawk’s Landing in Plantation – a position he has held for 14 years. All of his business comes from word-of-mouth and he lists Stiles Construction, Paul’s Carpet and Marble crafters as some of his larger contractors. “At this time, we seem to be in a niche with a number of dealerships including Sunrise Harley Davidson, Lexus of Pembroke Pines, lexus of North Miami, Rick Case Hundai, Sawgrass Infiniti, Coral Hummer, West Kendall Toyota as well as the corporate offices at Auto Nation and the recently completed Eldorado Furniture in Coconut Creek. "The tile industry has changed dramatically in recent years. Back in the '70's the average floor tile was 8x8 and it was soft clasy ceramic tile. Now we're installing 24x24 rectified porcelain and some people can't even cut it properly. We've Seen a number of companies go under but that basically culled out those who were not performing properly or which were poorly managed."

Gene and his company have been customers of D&B Tile Distributors for nearly 30 years. "They are the only company I buy from mainly due to their customer service.
